Hill Productions & Media Group, Inc. is proud to announce that long time client, Iowa-based Dutch Country Living, has landed on Inc. magazine’s 37th annual Inc. 5000 list, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. The list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent small businesses. Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000.
Dutch Country Living is the parent company of Dutch Country General Store, Amish Made Poly & Poly Furniture USA, and is headquartered in rural Davis County, Iowa. Dutch Country Living represents one of only two Iowa-based retail companies to achieve a position on this year’s list. Dutch Country Living has been a marketing and business consulting client of Hill Productions & Media Group since early 2016.
“Our internal team has worked very hard over the last several years to get to this point, but I also have to thank HPMG & Justin for helping us all along the way. This honor wouldn’t have been possible without their assistance! To be recognized on a national level is huge, and we have been truly blessed,” says Levi Good, Dutch Country Living CEO.
In 2012, the adventurous then 21 year-old took the reins of a struggling enterprise; since that time Dutch Country Living has experienced phenomenal growth. Focusing on authentic Mennonite and Amish made products, the company has achieved growth both in brick and mortar as well as digitally. In 2016 the company launched a poly furniture division that has doubled in size each year since, but still stays true to authentic Amish roots. “Our poly furniture is not made in a big factory somewhere; it’s made in small shops on Amish farms using the same traditions of quality building that they’ve been using for hundreds of years. Sure, the material is now recycled poly, rather than wood, but the tradition remains the same,” noted Good.
The Dutch Country General Store operates as both brick and mortar store as well as online. A popular tourist stop, shoppers delight at the handmade and homemade product lines which include traditional Amish wood furniture, bulk foods, candy, candles, heirloom quilts, fabrics, wooden toys, jar goods, and more. “While we are popular with local folks, on any given day 75% of the cars in our parking lot are from out-of-state,” explains Store Manager, Brenda Hershberger. For this reason the store launched an online shopping experience in late 2017 and continues to add new products regularly with the goal of allowing visitors to enjoy the quality products and experience of shopping at the store from home or anywhere.
Not only have the companies on the 2018 Inc. 5000 been very competitive within their markets, but the list as a whole shows staggering growth compared with prior lists. The 2018 Inc. 5000 achieved an astounding three-year average growth of 538.2 percent, and a median rate of 171.8 percent. The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue was $206.1 billion in 2017, accounting for 664,095 jobs over the past three years.
“If your company is on the Inc. 5000, it’s unparalleled recognition of your years of hard work and sacrifice,” says Inc. editor in chief James Ledbetter. “The lines of business may come and go, or come and stay. What doesn’t change is the way entrepreneurs create and accelerate the forces that shape our lives.”
